World of Warcraft Classic’s third phase and halfway point is a major turning point for the game

World of Warcraft Classic’s third phase and halfway point is a major turning point for the game. The next update to hit Classic, scheduled to release on Feb. 12 at 5pm CT, brings a host of changes, including a new raid, reputation rewards, class quests, Eternal Quintessence, and the Darkmoon Faire. Players will also have the opportunity to farm even more gear and strengthen their character to its fullest potential.

Blizzard said in a forum post that the response from the community to the Honor system prompted them to release the two battlegrounds ahead of the PVE content. And it seems that — for the most part — people are happy to delve into PVP earlier, if only to have something to do at max level. This faster launch sets a precedent for how soon Blizzard is willing to release content. The last phase content was released on November 12, and the one before that was on October 15. That gives us roughly monthly updates, so we can probably expect the complete Phase 3 content to be out in early January. It’s unclear why this is the chosen time frame. It could be anything from Blizzard monitoring how fast people are engaging with the new stuff, or out of a fear that the game will lose relevance too fast. It does make you wonder what will happen once they’ve reached the final phase.

The first Darkmoon Faire in WoW Classic will get underway in early February, with barkers and the Faire setup appearing on Friday, February 7, and the festivities opening on Monday, February 10. Look for the many Darkmoon Cards that make up the beasts, elementals, portals, and warlords sets to begin dropping from enemies and bosses on Wednesday, February 5.

With Phase 3's content finally being delivered, World of Warcraft Classic players can start to look to Phase 4. Phase 4 will include the Arathi Basin PvP Battleground, as well as the 20-man raid Zul'Gurub. Finally, Phase 4 will add the four Green Dragon world bosses for players to hunt. There's no currently planned timeline for the release of Phase 4 in World of Warcraft Classic.
