FIFA 18 Release will be Later This Year

EA has confirmed that the "custom built" FIFA game coming to Nintendo Switch will be FIFA 18. Previously only officially referred to as "EA Sports FIFA on Nintendo Switch", EA chief competition officer Peter Moore confirmed that the game will be the next full installment in the series during an interview with GameReactor.

"Well, as we have said," he explained, "we are custom-building a FIFA version for the Nintendo Switch. It will be FIFA 18, and it will obviously be later this year when FIFA 18 comes out."

While not a specific confirmation that the Switch version will come out at the same time as other platforms' editions, this does confirm that the game won't be out before September, the series' traditional release window.

Of course, FIFA releases usually span multiple console generations, and previous editions of the game for Nintendo consoles have been "last-gen" versions. Moore explained that in this case, there's a more bespoke approach being taken, with the Switch version being built specifically for the new console:

"What you have will be a custom built version for the Nintendo Switch from the FIFA development team in Vancouver."

Presumably that will refer to the game's visual quality, as well as Switch's more unique features, such as ad-hoc local multiplayer between systems, and simplified single Joy-Con controls. However, it should presumably include all the features of the main game, such as FIFA 18 The Journey Season 2.

Moore also dropped a couple of other bits of information that provide more clarity on the Switch version. He noted that it will be developed in-house at EA Vancouver, the home of the FIFA series. And from Moore's comment that the Switch version will launch “when FIFA 18 comes out,” we can infer that it will launch in the franchise’s traditional September release window — another detail that hints at parity between FIFA 18 on Switch and its PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One brethren.

Of course, we'll have to wait until EA shows off the Switch version of FIFA 18 to truly know how it matches up to its more established siblings. We still don't know if there's any truth to the rumor that the Switch version is running on last-generation technology, although Moore has indirectly denied it.

FIFA 18 is due to release later this year for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC and Nintendo Switch. 6cce.com will share the latest FIFA 18 News and Guides for you, also provide FIFA 18 Account and Points with fast delivery online!
